Five local athletes were inducted into the 2010 Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet at Carroll Community College on April 9. The Rotary Club of Westminster was host of the ceremony. More than 150 people attended the event.

The five inductees are:

• Sandy Wilson, a three-sport athlete at Liberty High School, a Baltimore Sun and Carroll County Times Athlete of the Year and a Division 1 All American at James Madison University;
• Vic Makovitch, a wrestling Little All American at then-Western Maryland College (now McDaniel), and a man considered the “father of wrestling in Carroll County,” because of his years as director of officials in the county and as a coach;
• Jon-David Byers, a player of the year in basketball and golf at Westminster High School and two-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year at Lebanon Valley College;
• Granville Hibbert, first coach in the county to have back-to-back state championship soccer teams (1985 and 1986) as well as a regional title in 1992, at Francis Scott Key High School. He was also Maryland Association of Soccer Coaches Regional Coach of the Year in 1997.
• Guy Babylon, a track and field athlete at Francis Scott Key who also became an accomplished swimmer through YMCA programs, competing in meets statewide. He swam for North Baltimore Aquatic Club, AAU and Junior Olympics, then on scholarship at University of South Florida.
